Thermal Inspection or Thermography is a widely used testing method which involves measuring and mapping of surface temperatures as heat flows from, to or through an object. Two approaches to thermal inspection include passive and active. The former includes features of interest which have naturally higher or lower temperatures than the background (i.e. surveillance of people at a scene). The latter includes features of interest which an energy source is required to produce a contrast between the feature of interest and the background (i.e. a generator part containing internal flaws). Thermal Inspection is different from other testing methods in that it is non-intrusive and non-contact. Thermal imaging systems create pictures of heat flow in a very rapid and easy manor.
