GROUND PENETRATING RADAR (GPR)

At Steel City NDT, we provide Ground Penetrating Radar services for a variety of applications. This safe and cost-effective method is a great way to help you determine the location and depth of previously unknown soil conditions or objects.

What is Ground Penetrating Radar?

Ground Penetrating Radar, also called GPR, is a non-destructive method of generating a profile for various subsurface structures. This geophysical method utilizes radar pulses to image the subsurface. Utilizing electromagnetic radiation waves, GPR detects the reflected signals from the subsurface structures.

Our experienced team uses this method to produce an image of subsurface features, which can determine the location and depth of buried cables, structures, and other items. GPR is also used to determine the soil type, structure, and condition of the area.

To perform this type of testing, we do not have to disturb the soil but instead, use an antenna that transmits a high-frequency radio wave. This antenna is rolled or dragged over the ground in a cart by our trained technician, along with a data logger or video screen that will record all the signals we receive.
