ULTRASONIC TESTING (UT)

NDT Ultrasonic Testing (UT) utilizes high frequency sound energy for surface and subsurface examinations. Ultrasonic inspection techniques will provide details regarding flaw detection, measurement of material thickness, and dimensional measurements. Ultrasonic inspection systems consist of several units including a pulser/receiver, transducer, and a display device. Ultrasonic waves will travel through the inspection material in a straight line until they hit a surface. Once this happens, the amount of reflected vs. the amount of transmitted energy is detected and provides a reading as to the extent of the flaw.

UT is mainly used for locating and sizing hidden cracks, voids, disbonds, and other anomalies in welds, axles, billets, forgings, pressure vessels, turbines, and structural components.

Our technicians are not only able to detect a flaw in a test object, but also they’re able to provide a wide range of detail on the flaw, including size, length, depth, and severity. Our technicians also use the widely trusted Olympus brand, and our units are thoroughly calibrated prior to each and every inspection. We are able to perform inspections to any code, standard, or specification. Contact us today for more information about our ultrasonic inspection services.
